Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress defeated Senegal 84-74 to win the 2023 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Rwanda, Sportivationng.com reports.
D’Tigress have now won the tournament for an historic fourth consecutive time to further establish their dominance in Africa.
Nigeria can now boast of enjoying success in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023.
Rena Wakama-led side started on a strong note winning the first quarter 19-10 before pipping Senegal again in the second quarter 24-21.
Senegal fought back in the third quarter to win 26-19.
D’Tigress had the last laugh in the fourth quarter with a 22-17 victory to win the tie 84-74.
Nigeria coach Rena Wakama, who took over the team two weeks before the start of the competition is the first female coach to win the AfroBasket tournament.
D’Tigress are only the second team ever to win the tournament four times in a row after Senegal.
