Nigerian-born forward, Timoni Gbalajobi, has been touted as the next football star following his scintillating performances for the Philadelphia Union, Sportivationng.com reports.
Gbalajobi has been on the lips of every football loving person in the United States of America due to his explosive style of play making him one of the most sought-after young stars in the country.
The 16-year-old can be mistaken for an established football star with his finishing, pace and general understanding of the game.
Last year, The Major League Soccer recognised him as one of the standout players in the U-15 category.
He has played for the likes of Cherry Hill, New Jersey before opting to continue his development at the Philadelphia Union.
Gbalajobi has also represented the United States of America’s U-15 team in numerous tournaments.
He scored 35 goals and recorded seven assists last season, he won the Golden Boot award at the Snow Bowl academy tournament in February 2026.

He led the Philadelphia Union U-15 team to the MLS NEXT Cup triumph in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where he was named the player of the match following a match-winning performance with two goals.
He is now considering the option of donning the colours of Nigeria.
He will be eligible to represent the Golden Eaglets.

Let’s take a look at the five qualities Timoni Gbalajobi will add to the Golden Eaglets.
1. Predatory Finishing: For a striker to score 35 goals last season, you know he is a potent finisher. He is blessed with the innate ability to pick the right spot when facing the opposition goalkeeper.
He is always calm in front of goal, which is a major quality for a striker because you need to be calm and calculated to beat the goalkeepers.
Gbalajobi will provide plenty of this for the Golden Eaglets especially under the guidance of the highly-rated Eboboritse Uwejamomere.
2. Pressing: A modern day footballer is required to press, most coaches want a player who has the ability to press the opponents from the get-go.
Despite his young age, Gbalajobi has got the ability to make life difficult for the opposing defenders with his energy acting as the team’s first line of defense, disrupting opponent build-up play from the front.
3. Speed: Gbalajobi is also blessed with pace, he can outrun a defender when in a 1v1 position. He also has the ability to move his feet fast during a breakaway.
This is one of the qualities of an all-action forward, which can be useful when involved in a tough game and the team is deploying a counter-attacking style.
4. Positioning and Tactical Awareness: One of the hallmarks of a great striker is the ability to be at the right place at the right time.
Positioning is a key trait that Gbalajobi has shown and he can still improve on being a player that can adapt to different tactical requirements from his coach.
Most of the goals he scored were a testament to his tactical intelligence and knowing where to go and how to move as a striker.
This will be a major asset to the Golden Eaglets in their quest to returning the glory days to Nigerian football.
5. Work Rate and Discipline: Just like Sir Alex Ferguson said, “Hard work will always overcome natural talent when natural talent does not work hard enough.”
Gbalajobi has shown immense work rate and discipline, a trait he joyfully picked from his parents while growing up.
He is a player that is always willing to go one more yard to help the team especially when defending transitions.
In football today, almost every player is expected to have some sort of work rate because you have to track back to support the team off the ball.
Gbalajobi’s display of discipline, which has drawn praises from his coaches is testament of the values instilled in him by his parents and he has continued to show it for the whole world to see and this will play a vital role in his career.
Nigerian football handlers must act fast to snap Gbalajobi from the noses of the United States of America, who are already mapping out plans for him to move up the ranks in their youth set-up.
