Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has showered encomiums on Gabriel Jesus after his match-winning performance in the 4-1 win over Leeds United, Sportivationng.com reports.
The Brazilian forward scored a brace to help Arsenal to an emphatic win to boost their Premier League title hopes.
The former Manchester City striker opened the scoring from the spot after he was fouled by Luke Ayking, He added the second goal with a clinical finish from Leandro Trossard’s cross.
Ben White and Granit Xhaka also got on the act to hand the Gunners the maximum points.
Arteta reserved special praise for his star striker who celebrated his first start since returning from a knee injury with a brace.
“Delighted for him,” the Arsenal boss said.
“They all were. We were all clapping for him. He’s been working so hard for the last four or five months with a lot of support from the team and the staff.
Today he deserved the chance to start. He grabbed the opportunity with a lot of conviction and with two goals.”
Gabriel Jesus also hailed his teammates for their impressive display.
“Everyone is playing so well. It is easy to come back. The most important thing is that everyone that has come in has played good.
“I want to score every game. But sometimes it can’t happen. I am more happy with the three points than the goals.
Congrats for the team. Zini [Oleksandr Zinchenko] joked with me yesterday, because we were practicing penalties and I just took that one like I always do, stopping.
He said ‘in the game, you never do it like this’, so I showed him clips. I was calm and I remember him as well.
Jesus has now scored seven goals and recorded five assists in 17 Premier League games this season.
Arsenal will be back in Premier League action against Liverpool on Sunday at Anfield.
