Arsenal defeated Manchester City 4-1 via penalty shootout to win the 2023 FA Community Shield, Sportivationng.com reports.

The regulation time ended 1-1 before the Gunners stunned the treble winners in the shootout.

Leandro Trossard restored parity for Arsenal with a deflected effort in the 101st minute to drag the tie into penalty shootout.

Martin Odegaard scored the first penalty for Arsenal, while Kevin De Bruyne was not so lucky as his effort hit the crossbar.

Leandro Trossard scored Arsenal’s second penalty, before Bernardo Silva also found joy for Manchester City from the spot.

Bukayo Saka scored the third penalty kick, while Rodri missed his own effort thanks to Ramsdale’s save.

Fabio Viera finished emphatically in the last kick to hand Arsenal a 4-1 win and ultimately the 2023 Community Shield.

Mikel Arteta handed debuts to new signings, Kai Havertz,  Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber in the encounter.

Manchester City will open the 2023-24 Premier League season with a trip to newly-promoted Burnley on Friday.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will welcome Arsenal to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
