Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom has been named the EFL Championship Player of the season award, Sportivationng.com reports.
Akpom has been a shining star for Middlesbrough in the league, scoring 29 goals in 38 games for Michael Carrick’s side.
He is on course to become the first Middlesbrough player to win the Golden Bikt since John Hickton in the 1970/71 Championship season.
Akpom is also the first Middlesbrough player to score 20 league goals since Bernie Slaven in 1989/90.
The former Arsenal striker was delighted to be named Championship Player of the season.
“It means a lot to get acknowledged for the work during the season and I’m really grateful for it,”
“There’s a lot of quality players in this league so for me to even be on the shortlist was an amazing accomplishment.
Akpom also reserved special praise for his teammates.
“I always try to tell people it’s not just me,” he said. “It’s about the team. I couldn’t do it. I feel like the manager has got the perfect players for the way we want to play.
“The changing room is amazing, there’s a good relationship s between everyone and I’m grateful to everyone for their support and I wouldn’t have been nominated without them.”
The 27-year-old was also named in the Championship team of the season.
Burnley manager, Vincent Kompany was named Championship manager of the season after guiding rhe Hornets back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
