The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria defeated Zambia 1-0 in their first match of the 2023 U-17 Nations Cup, Sportivationng.com reports.
Favour Daniel scored the only goal of the encounter with 20 minutes to go to hand the Nduka Ugbade-led side the maximum points.
The Eaglets are in Group B alongside Morocco, South Africa and Zambia.
Substitute Light Eke missed a late penalty to make it 2-0.
It was a dominant performance from the young Nigerians but they were unable to finish most of their chances.
Precious Williams was presented with an opportunity before the break but he was unable to convert.
Zambia also had an attempt of their own which came off the cross bar.
Golden Eaglets finally broke the deadlock in the 77th minute when Favour Daniel took advantage of a loose ball to score the only goal of the game.
Nigeria will be back in action against Morocco on Wednesday.
