Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen has opened up on the reason he passed up the opportunity to score a hat-trick for Napoli in the 3-0 win over Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday, Sportivationng.com reports.
The Napoli forward scored a brace in the encounter and decided to allow Piotr Zielinski to finish from the spot in the 64th minute.
He added the second in the 53rd minute after guiding Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s cross into the net.
Some football fans wondered why Osimhen didn’t take the penalty.
He has now revealed the reason behind his decision.
“The penalty Zieliniski asked me if he could take it, of course I’m a team player it doesn’t matter who scores as long as the team achieves success. I know my goals will come with or without penalty.”
The 24-year-old played a key role to help Napoli qualify for their first-ever Champions League quarter-finals with three goals against Frankfurt in the round of 16.
He was on target in the 2-0 win in the first leg.
He is also the first player to score for Napoli in the both legs of a Champions League knockout tie.
Osimhen has now scored four goals in five Champions League games this season.
