Paulo Dybala had given Roma the lead on the front foot of a counter attack in the 35th minute after collecting Ginaluca Mancini’s pass before firing home to the far corner of the post.
However, an own goal by Mancini who turned in Jesus Navas’ into his net saw Sevilla drew level and then took control of the game ten minutes into the second half.
Failing to find a winner in extra time, the keenly contested match had to be decided on penalties, where Sevilla emerged champions courtesy of Bounou’s brilliance.
The victory means Sevilla have automatically qualify for next season’s Champions League despite missing out on a top four spot in La Liga.
