Delta Queens have been crowned champions of the 2022-23 NWFL Premiership season after edging out defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Sportivationng.com reports.
Delta Queens defeated Bayelsa 2-1 and made it a memorable victory right in front of their fans at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
From the blast of the whistle both teams started off on high, playing with all urgency, though, chances created were little in the opening minutes.
On the run of play, Bayelsa Queens broke through and took the lead on the 14th minute via an own goal by Chisom Henry.
The Prosperity Girls capitalized on the advantage of going ahead first and push for further goals as the game lit up.
Although, no goals were produced in the first half as Bayelsa Queens held on the lead preciously heading into the break.
After the restart of the encounter, hosts Delta Queens took their destiny into their hands by pressing on for an equalizer.
On the half-hour-mark they were rewarded when Chinaza Agoh struck to draw her team level and thereby sending the home fans into wild jubilation.
Agoh again, scored and turned hero as Delta Queens eventually won the tie and clinched the title on home soil.
They walk away with N10m as price money and picked the continental ticket for CAF Women’s Champions League.
For their efforts as runners-up, Bayelsa Queens earned N5m as price money.
In the other game played earlier in the day, former winners Rivers Angels downed Confluence Queens 2-0.
Adaobi Okah and Oghenebrume Ikekhua provided the goals as the Port Harcourt landladies finished third and won N3m.
