Nigeria’s quest for a fourth Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title faces a significant challenge as they battle with the absence of influential midfielder Wilfred Ndidi due to injury.

Ndidi, a linchpin for Leicester City, was notably missing from their recent triumph over Huddersfield Town in the English Championship on Monday.

Super Eagles of Nigeria spokesperson, Babafemi Raji, has officially confirmed that Alhassan Yusuf will step in to fill Ndidi’s shoes. Despite lacking international experience, Yusuf, currently showcasing impressive form with Belgian champions Royal Antwerp, has earned a spot in the squad for the upcoming Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Compounding this setback, Kelechi Iheanacho, another key player from Leicester City, is working towards overcoming a persistent muscle injury to ensure his availability for the continental competition hosted by Ivory Coast, scheduled to kick off on January 13 in Abidjan.

The three-time African champions are earnestly honing their skills during training sessions in the United Arab Emirates, gearing up for this momentous football spectacle.

They will play in Group A alongside formidable opponents Ivory Coast, Guinea Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea.

Nigeria anticipates a challenging path to success. Their inaugural match, scheduled for January 14, will witness them facing Equatorial Guinea in a critical showdown.
