Lamine Yamal became Barcelona’s youngest-ever player at the age of 15 in the 4-0 win over Real Betis on Saturday, Sportivationng.com reports.
Yamal replaced Gavi in the 84th minute to make his debut, becoming the fifth youngest player to play in the competition at 15 years and 290 days.
Luka Romero is the youngest player to feature in the Laliga at the age of 15 years and 219 days against Real Madrid in 2020.
Christensen put Barcelona in the lead with a well-placed header in the 14th minute from a Raphinha’s cross.
Edgar Gonzalez was sent off for Real Betis for two bookable offences before Robert Lewandowski added the second goal from Kounde’s cross.
Raphinha scored the third goal just before halftime to give Barcelona a comfortable lead going into the break.
Real Betis defender Rodriguez diverted Ansu Fati’s cross into his own net for the fourth goal.
The win maintains Barcelona’s 11 points clear at the Laliga summit.
Xavi Hernandez hailed Yamal for his historic debut for Barcelona.
“He’s got innate talent in the final third which is difficult to find,” Xavi told reporters.
“He doesn’t seem like he’s 15 years old, he’s more mature than his years. I’ve seen him train and he’s showed it.
“He played 10 minutes, but did well, he can mark an era at the club.”
“I told him to try things and he did,” Xavi told Movistar.
“At 15 years old, just imagine it. He’s a special player, he could score, assist, he had confidence.
“When you see it in training you realise he could be big.”
Barcelona will be back in La Liga action against Osasuna on Tuesday.
