THE PRESS AND THE PRESSING MATTER, Manchester United’s Leaky Stadium and Leaky Defence
By Ajiboye Oladehinde
I stumbled upon a short video that showed a certain football club stadium that was pouring in waters from the top during a live match.
I could hear some individuals mocking and throwing jabs at such situation. Then something flashed through my mind.
This same football club has been in the news for turbulence situations ongoing within the whole organization, then I remembered a saying that “he goes from frying pan to fire”. I think this is the best description of the current situation in this football organization.
While Manchester United has been dealing with press matters after always dropping stinkers in their performances with a leaky defence line, and always breaking their fans’ hearts, as if that is not enough and to add icing to their sugar they now have to deal with other pressing matters.
Any Man united fan out there will agree that the team has been hiding under the shadow of their past glory and their patience are beginning to be tried. I see many online taunts even amidst their own fans and rival fans and while Eric Ten Hag has been made to face the press and bear the whole responsibility for the shambolic displays from his side, the Glazers, who are responsible for the majority of the woes have been indifferent and have failed to take responsibility.
It is no wonder many coaches have seen the club as a cash out opportunity, coming to the club, signing bumper packages, bear the press and media taunts and leave when the right opportunity presents itself.
The club and those at the helm of affairs seem not to care much about the name and glory of the club’s history any longer.
While the club is still trying to find their way out of the mess due to their poor performances and injury woes, they seem to have received more salt on their already open wound. Now the pressing matter which is the stadium leakage has added to the press pressure the team have been facing.
What do you think is the way out for Manchester United?
Do you think they should handle the press pressure related to their performance or they should take care of the pressing matter in relation to their leaking stadium?
