The nation’s athletes continued their medal hunt with a gold medal, a bronze medal and several qualification successes for finals.

The undisputed highlight of the day came in the men’s Shot Put, where Chukwuebuka Enekwechi finally achieved his Commonwealth Games dream by winning the gold medal with a superb throw of 21.07m in the fifth round.

The Nigerian star held his nerve in a fiercely contested competition to edge New Zealand’s Tom Walsh, as he co-Captain won Nigeria’s 8th gold medal.

In the women’s 100m hurdles final, world record holder Tobi Amusan battled and won a bronze medal from a difficult position, clocking 12.60 seconds to secure another podium finish for Nigeria.

The race was won by Devynne Charlton of The Bahamas in 12.33 seconds, while Jamaica’s Megan Simmons claimed silver in 12.41 seconds.

Nigeria also continued to make a powerful statement on the track as Samuel Ogazi delivered one of the performances of the championships in the men’s 400m semifinal.

Ogazi stormed to victory in 44.52 seconds, setting the fastest 400m semifinal ever recorded in Commonwealth Games history.

Team Nigeria will also have a second representative in the men’s 400m final after Edidiong Udo officially progressed following an upgrade from third to second place in his semifinal.

Udo had crossed the line in 45.55 seconds before being elevated after the disqualification of Jamaica’s Antonio Watson, giving Nigeria two finalists in one of the Games’ marquee events.

In the men’s 200m, Udodi Onwuzurike secured his place in the final after producing an impressive 20.22-second run to finish second in his semifinal behind Jamaica’s Christopher Taylor, who won in 20.20 seconds. Onwuzurike now advances with genuine hopes of adding another sprint medal for Team Nigeria.

Attention will also turn to the women’s 400m final, where Ella Onojuvwevwo enters as one of the leading medal contenders.

The Nigerian quarter-miler, whose personal best of 49.47 seconds ranks her seventh fastest in the world this season, will be aiming to translate her outstanding form into a place on the podium.

In the decathlon, Nigeria’s Jami Schlueter completed a solid opening day to remain firmly in contention. He sits fourth overall with 4,196 points after recording 10.70 seconds in the 100m, 7.16m in the Long Jump, 15.35m in the Shot Put, 1.97m in the High Jump and 49.71 seconds in the 400m.

Meanwhile, Unyima Uwak represented Nigeria with distinction in the women’s T47 100m final, finishing fifth after running a season’s best time of 12.63 seconds.

With another gold medal secured, more finals awaiting, and several medal events to come, Team Nigeria heads into the coming days of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games with confidence and renewed determination to finish among the leading nations on the medal table.
