Akwa United coach, Ayodeji Ayeni has opened up on the club’s 1-0 defeat to Remo Stars in the NPFL on Sunday, Sportivationng.com reports.
Junior Nduka scored the only goal of the encounter from the spot late in the first half.
Ayeni is confident that Akwa United will qualify for the Super Six despite the defeat in Ikenne.
The win helped the Sky Blue Stars to move up to third on the log, while Akwa United dropped to fourth.
“It’s rather unfortunate that we didn’t get any points from the game. In my opinion, we played well but the outcome of the match is not a true reflection of what happened during the match. Apart from that penalty, the result would have been different,” Ayeni told the club’s media.
He has now urged the players to move on from the loss and focus on their next game.
“We have to put this defeat behind us quickly and set our minds on the remaining two games knowing all that we have planned and worked for this season can be achieved if we win the remaining matches,” he added.
Up next for Akwa United is a clash against El-Kanemi Warriors at the Godswill Akpabio Int’l Stadium on Sunday.
