He overtakes Jose Mourinho’s record of 37, which he set in the 2016-2017 season, winning the Europa League, League Cup and the Community Shield in his first season.
No other United manager has won over 30 matches during their first season, with the next best records featuring David Moyes (2013/14, 27 wins), Frank O’Farrell (1971/1972, 24 wins), Wilf McGuinness (1969/70, 23 wins) and Louis van Gaal (2014/15, 23 wins).
Ten Hag has transformed Manchester United in his first season at Old Trafford, winning the League Cup and on the verge of sealing a Champions League return.
He is on course to pull further clear with Premier League games to go, an FA Cup final against Manchester City.
