The second edition of the Redemption Football Tourney kicked off on April 18 with scintillating football on display from the participating teams at the Redemption City Playing Ground, Sportivationng.com reports.
Sportivation Media reports that A total of eight matches were played on the opening weekend with the defending champions, Best Talent FC defeating Dove FC 1-0 in the star match of the opener.
A total of 20 teams will battle it out for the title, and for a chance to go home with the prize money of Three million naira.
Each group contains five teams.
In Group A, Young Boys DFC, BHN FC, Future Bright FA, RCCG KIC, and Flexy 89 FC will battle it out for a place in the second round.
In Group B, Defending champions, Best Talent FC are in contention with the quartet of Rhema FC, Harmony Sports Academy, Dove FC, and Bajulaiye FC.
In Group C, Milly FC, RCCG The Envoys, Car Park C FC, Magboro FC, and Potter’s FC will battle it out.
In Group D, Raven FC, Dynamic FC, King Athletic FC, Baraka FC, and Zionstars FC will slug it out for a place in the second round.
On Saturday, BHN FC, and Young Boys DFC played out a 1-1 draw in the first match of the day.
In the second match of the day, Future Bright FA and RCCG KIC ended goalless.
Best Talent FC defeated Dove FC 1-0, while Rhema FC also earned a 1-0 win over Bajulaiye FC.
The second matchday on Sunday produced a total of 17 goals with the likes of Milly FC, and Raven FC scoring six goals apiece.
Milly FC earned a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Potter’s FC to open their campaign in style.
Ravens FC followed suit with a 6-0 win over Zionstars FC.
Dynamic FC defeated Baraka FC 2-0, while RCCG The Envoys played out a 1-1 draw with Car Park C FC.
The organisers expressed delight with the quality of football by the teams on the opening weekend while praising football fans for trooping out to enjoy the tourney.
Action resumes on Saturday, and Sunday with the likes of Magboro FC taking on RCCG The Envoys and King Athletic FC battling it out with Baraka FC.
With the opening weekend successfully concluded, attention now shifts to the next round of fixtures, where teams will look to build momentum and strengthen their chances of progressing in the tournament.
