Nigeria delivered a spirited performance, setting a new African Record in the mixed 4x100m relay and strengthening its qualification push for the World Relays in Gaborone, Botswana.

The Nigerian quartet of Chidera Ezeakor, Maria Thompson, James Taiwo Emmanuel, and Obi Jennifer Chukwuka blazed to victory at the Lefika International Relays, clocking an outstanding time of 41.44 seconds to win the event in emphatic fashion.

Competing in the newly introduced mixed 4x100m relay, Team Nigeria not only claimed gold but also etched their names into the record books as the first African Record holders in the event.

The performance significantly boosts Nigeria’s standing in the World Relays qualification rankings, moving the team up to 12th position and placing Nigeria firmly in contention for a place at the prestigious global event.

Kenya finished in second place with a strong showing, recording a National Record time of 41.70 seconds.
