Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Musa Gusau has marked his two-year anniversary with a comprehensive review of achievements.
The NFF President shared his achievements in the areas of global visibility, referees welfare and development, league revitalization and series of positive results in the various national teams.
Ibrahim Gusau was elected as NFF President in September of 2022, defeating nine other contestants to emerge as the successor of Amaju Pinnick.
Since his emergence as NFF President, the Zamfara-born Sports Administrator has never looked back in moving the Nigerian Football Association Forward.
“We’ve made significant strides in enhancing the football experience,” Gusau emphasized. “Our partnership with a London-based streaming company broadcasts matches to 120 countries, promoting Nigerian football globally.”
Gusau’s administration also prioritized referee welfare, by improving allowances for match officials, timely payments, which ended four to five years of complaints, Premium Trust Bank partnership for Referee’s kitting and many more.
The present board has also put focus on young referees and has selected twenty referees, trained by World Football Governing Body, FIFA, with about ten of them now officiating in the Premier League.
“By investing in young Referees, we are changing the narratives and grooming international-calibre officials,” Gusau noted.
In the area of the League revitalization, the NFF Supremo noted that there has been huge improvement in the NPFL, since his team took charge. There has been an increased fan engagement and stadium attendance, because of the various innovations brought in by thr Gusau led administration.
The NFF recently introduced Player and Coach of the Month accolades in all tiers of the league also NPFL Matches are now beamed live through a very robust partnership with Startimes.
Ibrahim Musa Gusau’s tenure as NFF President has also yielded unprecedented success for Nigerian football.
The past two years have witnessed remarkable achievements across various national teams, for the first time since 2013, the Super Eagles reached the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final in Côte d’Ivoire, marking a significant resurgence.
The Super Falcons also shone at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, going unbeaten in the group stages, losing narrowly to the Three Lioness in the second round. The team also qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics ending a 16-year drought.
Nigeria’s Women U-17 team, the Flamingos made history by finishing third at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.
No doubt, Gusau’s leadership has revitalized Nigerian football. These achievements and more demonstrate his commitment to excellence and set the stage for continued success.
