Karolina Muchová produced a composedc and resilient performance to overcome tennis legend Venus Williams in a three-set battle at the 2025 US Open, booking her place in the next round of the Grand Slam.
The Czech star, who has built a reputation as one of the most versatile and tactically intelligent players on tour, recovered from a slow start to defeat Williams, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, in front of an appreciative New York crowd.
For Muchová, it was a crucial win as she continues her comeback from injury setbacks that have halted her momentum in recent years. The victory underscores her ability to adapt under pressure, particularly against a seasoned opponent with Williams’ pedigree.
Venus, competing in her 24th US Open main draw, once again showed her fighting spirit. Despite being 45 years old, she thrilled the Arthur Ashe Stadium fans with flashes of the power and precision that defined her trailblazing career. Speaking after the match, Muchová praised Williams’ longevity and impact on the sport:
“It’s always special to share the court with Venus. She’s a legend of the game and such an inspiration to all of us. I had to fight really hard today, and I’m happy I could find my game in the second and third sets.”
With the win, Muchová advances to Round 2, where she will look to build momentum and re-establish herself as a contender at the majors. Meanwhile, Williams’ participation served as yet another reminder of her enduring love for the game and the respect she commands worldwide.
