The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board has announced sanctions against the football federations of Zambia and Morocco for separate violations of tournament regulations.
In its ruling, CAF on Wednesday fined the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) USD 5,000 for failing to present head coach Avram Grant at a mandatory pre-match press conference.
The incident, which occurred during the ongoing continental qualifiers for the 2026 world cup, was deemed a breach of media obligations outlined in CAF’s competition regulations. Such press conferences are considered vital for promoting matches and ensuring fair media access to participating teams.
Similarly, the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) faced disciplinary action following the conduct of some of its players during their recent encounter against Kenya.
According to CAF, the players were involved in inappropriate behavior that contravened the competition’s code of conduct. The FRMF was fined USD 5,000, with half of the amount (USD 2,500) suspended, conditional on no similar misconduct within a set period.
CAF emphasized that these sanctions form part of its broader efforts to maintain discipline, professionalism, and respect within African football, both on and off the pitch.
The continental governing body reminded all participating teams that repeated offenses could attract stiver punishment, including point deductions or suspensions from competitions.
Both the Zambian and Moroccan federations have been formally notified of the decisions and have the right of appeal under CAF’s disciplinary framework.
