After four frenetic fixtures with a plethora of goals at the weekend, action resumes today at Deeonis football courts Ota-Ona, Ikorodu as the Spires 5-Aside Divisional Championship decides its semifinal matches.
Hostilities will get on the way at 12: Noon as new boy’s God Bless FC square up against a more experienced New Generation Football Club. The tournament brought about plenty of mental toughness for God Bless Football Club as they dug deeper to secure a 4-3 victory over highly rated better tomorrow in the first match.
It was, however, a show of strength and character for New Generation FC as they scored nine goals against Lofty Skills Football Club to advance 9-5 after regulation time. It’s now all to play for between both teams as a spot in the state tournament is at stake in today’s encounter.
The second semifinal tie will see Orion & Leon FC lock-horns against Diamond football club at 1:00 PM. Orion & Leon showed class as they annihilated Amuludun FC 5-0 in their first match, while Diamond football club recorded the tournament first double numbers as they pummelled Adhoc FC 10-5 in their opening encounter on at the weekend.
With a place in the final and a state championship ticket at stake, Oreon & Leon FC vs. Diamond football club will serve an entertaining encounter that will leave spectators at the edge of their seat.
The initiator of the tournament, Dr. Bankole Allibay, urged football Fans in Ikorodu and its environs to turn out in their numbers and cheer their respective teams.
” This tournament belongs to the local communities. They own the clubs, and we want them to truly connect with the gains and excitement.” Allibay said.
Sixteen teams from the five divisions of Lagos will qualify for the 2026 Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer state championship.
