Ruben Amorim was sacked as Manchester United coach after his emotional and inconsistent behaviour coupled with his inability to adapt his tactics, Sportivationng.com reports.

According to Sky Sports, United wanted stability and structure when they appointed him, which he brought in the early part of his reign, but a refusal to adapt and evolve his system led to the breakdown in confidence in the head coach.

Amorim had a scheduled meeting with director of football Jason Wilcox on Friday, where the team’s tactical approach was discussed in detail.

The United’s bosses felt Amorim’s response at that meeting was very negative and emotional.

It was not the result of differences in opinion over the January transfer window, although the two sides did not see eye to eye on whether to strengthen now.

Sources point out that the club has spent approximately £250m on new signings since Amorim arrived, and he knew the plan was always to strengthen the central midfield in the summer.

The overriding feeling was that, whilst the bosses believe in this group of players, they didn’t feel the head coach shared their optimism.

The agreement when Amorim joined was to have a plan for stability and then evolve the team and tactics, but United feel he failed to implement that.

After a poor run of results, the heated meeting with Jason Wilcox, and Amorim’s repeatedly negative comments to the media, change was inevitable.

United didn’t want to change head coach again, but felt they had no choice.

One Source told ESPN that Amorim was “too stubborn and too immature” to cope with the demands of the job, and having told the club he would be “flexible” and “evolve” his favored 3-4-3 formation, ultimately refused to be more pragmatic until it was too late.

The team’s poor performances on the pitch did not help matters, as Amorim departed as the worst coach in the post Ferguson era with a dismal win percentage of 38.1 per cent.

Another factor that didn’t resonate well with the board was the treatment of academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo, who has lost his place in the team.

He has not started a Premier League game this season and has only featured for a total of 212 minutes.

Stats That Nailed Ruben Amorim:

He led the club to one win in their last five matches, and three in the last 11.

Amorim also oversaw the embarrassing 12-11 penalty shootout defeat to Grimsby Town to crash out of the League Cup in the first round.

Grimsby Town are two divisions below in the English Football League rung, they currently play in the League Two. It is safe to say that the result did not go down well with the board, and the supporters.

Ruben Amorim leaves Manchester United in sixth position, with eight wins from their 20 Premier League games this season.

Manchester United have won less than a third of their Premier League games under Amorim, 15 out of 47, compared to 19 defeats.

His average of 1.23 points per game is the worst of any United manager in the Premier League era. Next lowest is Rangnick, who averaged 1.54.

Amorim’s longest winning run was just three matches, set in Europa League fixtures against Rangers and FCSB either side of a Premier League clash with Fulham in January and matched against Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton in October.

Amorim lost exactly a third of his matches overall, the worst of any permanent United manager since Frank O’Farrell in the early 1970s.

Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes took to social media to wish Amorim well for the future.

He wrote: “Thank you, sir! I wish you and your technical staff all the best.”

Similarly, Harry Maguire also wrote on Instagram: “Thank you for everything boss. I wish you all the best in the future.”

Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand was not surprised about Amorim’s dismissal following his poor run.

He wrote on X: “I didn’t appreciate this when I woke up this morning that Ruben Amorim would be getting the sack. He was not in the four or five managers I thought would be getting the sack next.

“I am surprised but when you look at his record, in black and white, I’m not surprised. I think that has been definitive and the reason it’s been so sharp overnight [speaking out]. Two managers have spoken out against the hierarchy now and been sacked immediately. But his record is the worst of any United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson.”

Another Manchester United legend, Gary Neville said Amorim was frustrated with the club’s hierarchy.

He said: “Something’s happened there in the last week with the quotes that are coming out that mean that Ruben Amorim is now starting to unleash a little bit.

“Everyone’s having to read between the lines what he means, which looks to me like he’s not happy with something within the hierarchy.”

Manchester United are expected to appoint an interim coach until the end of the season before bringing in a permanent coach in the summer.
