Taiwo Awoniyi Leads Nottingham Forest Past Southampton In Relegation Battle

Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi scored a brace for Nottingham Forest in the 4-3 win over Southampton to restore their Premier League survival hopes, Sportivationng.com reports.

Awoniyi opened the scoring in the 18th minute finishing off a cutback from Brenan Johnson.

Three minutes later, He added his second goal of the night when he pounced on a loose ball inside the net to poke home.

Southampton reduced the deficit through Carlos Alcaraz.

Morgan Gibbs-White made it 3-1 from the spot before the end of the first half.

Six minutes after the restart, Lyanco reduced the deficit for Southampton to make it 3-2.

Danilo made it 4-2 from a Morgan Gibbs-White pass to restore the Forest's two-goal lead.

James Ward-Prowse scored a 96th minute penalty to make it 4-3 and set up a nervy finish in an interesting encounter.

Awoniyi has now scored six goals and recorded one assist for Nottingham Forest in 14 Premier League starts this season.

Nottingham Forest have moved out of the relegation zone with three points clear of 18th placed Leicester City.

Up Next for Taiwo Awoniyi and his teammates is a trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Saturday.
