Osimhen, Oshoala, Nnadozie Make History At 2023 CAF Awards

Super Eagles star, Victor Osimhen has been named 2023 CAF African Player of the year in Morocco on Monday night, Sportivationng.com reports.

The Napoli forward enjoyed a scintillating year for club and country, he fought off competition from Achraf Hakimi and Mohammed Salah to win the prestigious award.

He is now the first Nigerian to win the award after Kanu Nwankwo scooped it in 1999.

Osimhen led Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years with series of match-winning performances.

He also won the Serie A top scorer award with 26 goals in 32 games to become the first African to achieve the feat.

The 24-year also finished as the top scorer in the Nations Cup qualifiers with 10 goals to help the Super Eagles book a place in the competition next year.

Osimhen is the first player to win African player of the year awards at the junior level and the senior level.

He also finished 8th in the 2023 Ballon d’or, the highest ever finished by a Nigerian.

Osimhen has now joined the enviable list of Nigerian players to win the coveted prize, joining the likes of Nwankwo Kanu, Rashidi Yekini, Emmanuel Amuneke and Victor Ikpeba.

Super Falcons Shine In Morocco

Super Falcons star, Asisat Oshoala won her sixth African Women’s Player of the year award following a stunning season with Barcelona Femeni.

The Super Falcons team were named the Women’s National tTam of the Year.

Chiamaka Nnadozie won the Women’s goalkeeper of the year award.
