Nigeria international Odion Ighalo will part ways with Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal at the end of the season upon the expiration of his contract.
Hilal announced it last night that Ighalo will leave the club after a successful 18 months spell where he contributed hugely for them.
The Nigerian made his move to the Middle-East in January 2022 and fired from all corners to finish as the league’s top scorer with 24 goals in his debut season.
The former Super Eagles star played a vital role in helping the Saudi Arabian outfit to title successes; winning the domestic league, King’s Cup and Super Lucille trophy.
Overall, he turned out for Hilal 60 times; scored 43 goals and added seven assists in the process as he became a favourite of the fans.
He upped his goalscoring game when he finished as Asian Champions League top scorer, thereby putting his name on the map as one of the competition’s finest strikers.
Reports have since emerged that Al Hilal have made Argentine and PSG superstar Lionel Messi a top target to replace Ighalo.
According to Foot Mercato, Messi’s entourage has agreed a record-breaking deal with the Saudi Pro League side, where he would earn €1.2bn over the course of a two-year contract.
