Ghana Beat Nigeria To Clinch maiden WAFU B U20 Women’s Cup

 

Ghana defeated Nigeria 3-1 on penalties to win the maiden edition of the WAFU B U20 Women’s Cup at the Baba Yara Sports stadium, Sportivationng.com reports.

The regulation time ended 1-1 and went straight into penalty shootout.

In an intense match where both sides showed persistent determination to finish on high, Ghana took the lead first to send the home fans into frenzy.

Stella Nyamekye converted a resultant penalty after Falconets forward Flourish Sebastian had fouled her opponent in the box.

Nigeria looked for a way to comeback, searching for an equalizer, however, Ghana held onto their precious lead into the break.

After the restart, the two teams began the encounter on a bright note, pushing for further goals as the game took a different dimension.

Falconets soon found their way into the game when Sebastian scored in the dying stages of the game to level up for team.

With no further goals after the additional time, the game went straight to penalty shootout where the Nigerians lost.

Ghana went on to claim the title and bragging rights as champions that hosted and won the inaugural edition of the regional championship.
