Erik Ten Hag: Zidane’s Thoughts on Potential Man United Appointment as Dutchman Faces Sacking
The esteemed Zinedine Zidane has been openly considered as a leading candidate to helm Manchester United on several occasions.
However, Zidane’s 2022 interview with the renowned French newspaper, L’Equipe, indicates that the legendary footballer might be inclined to turn down the job, should it be offered to him.
The current boss at Manchester United, Erik Ten Hag, assumed the role in April 2022. Recently, the Dutchman’s position has become increasingly precarious, with mounting pressure from critics.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has come under immense pressure in recent days following the club’s slow start to the 2022/23 campaign.
United are currently struggling for form and consistency across competitions, having already lost five Premier League games in just 10 outings.
Their most recent fixture ended in a 3-0 humiliation at the hands of rivals Manchester City on Sunday at Old Trafford.
According to BBC, United suffered a significant loss due to two goals from Erling Haaland and an 80th-minute shot from Phil Foden. This defeat has led to a group of fans calling for Ten Hag’s dismissal.
If the United board decides to let Ten Hag go, several accomplished managers like Zinedine Zidane are available to step in.
The former Real Madrid boss has previously been touted as a possible candidate to take charge at Old Trafford.
Back in 2021, he was propped for the role after United sacked club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
But can the Frenchman accept the job?
Speaking to L’Equipe in 2022, Zidane disclosed that whereas he is looking to make a return to management, there are clubs he cannot join due to various factors.
One such club is Manchester United, with the former player claiming his lack of knowledge of English rules him out of the role.
“When people say to me: ‘Do you want to go to Manchester?’ I understand English but I don’t fully master it,” he said
“I know that there are coaches who go to clubs without speaking the language, but I work differently,” he added.
Earlier, Sports reported Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has admitted he is under pressure following the club’s difficult start to the new season.
The Red Devils have been struggling for form, results, and consistency across competitions, with their latest outing ending in a 3-0 defeat at the hands of rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford.
